Ashish Maurya has a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Faculty of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow University. “ But Cinema has influenced and taught me more than the college,” he says.

A chance encounter with Samar S. Jodha, an eminent photographer in 1999 gave him a new perspective towards Visual Communication. He gained valuable experience working as an assistant to him on several assignments.

Since then he worked extensively on variety of assignments from Production Still Photography for ace film directors Muzaffar Ali for his tele-films, “Ek Cigarette & Mangala” and Mira Nair for “Monsoon Wedding”) to several corporate clients for advertising and industrial shoots.

His sensibility is somewhere between documentary photography and photojournalism. His forte is his ability to find beauty in ordinary situations.

Ashish’s interest in theatre has added a new dimension to his career when he started shooting for documentaries on digital video in Y2K. His experience as an Assistant Director to Muzaffar Ali helped him a lot here. Since then he has done camera work and productions of several documentaries and promotional films for clients in India and abroad.
